Heavy Metals Fixation at J.H. Baxter Superfund Site

The scope of work for this project included the heavy metals fixation of soils at the JH Baxter Superfund Site. In addition to heavy metals fixation, elements of work also included excavation, screening, feeding of trommel, and placement in impound cell of treated soil and sludge materials. Screened materials to remove all material larger than 2", and removed the oversize material to an on-site RCRA-equivalent disposal cell. Screened soil and sludge was then treated to reduce leaching characteristics of four targeted metals (arsenic, chromium, copper and zinc). Approximately 3,125 tons of material was successfully treated in 500-cubic-yard batches. Twenty samples were collected from each batch and analyzed using the CAM-WET analysis. All samples returned satisfactory results.
