Soil Remediation at Flying J - Boise, ID

This site, a former truck stop and restaurant, was to be part of a major commercial development in Boise, Idaho. Past activities had resulted in widespread contamination of site soils, and this remedial action was required prior to a real estate transaction. The State of Idaho and Flying J were the entities responsible for the cleanup. Kleinfelder, under a multi-year environmental management contract, was the State of Idaho's agent for this project. This contract was with both the State of Idaho and Flying J to provide on-site thermal desorption of site soils.

This was a fast-track cleanup complicated by its proximity to residential and commercial areas and concurrent management of the site by representatives of the State of Idaho and Flying J. As separate contracts existed with these parties, coordination of the joint remediation effort and resolve conflicts between the clients was critical.

Project Performance

Due to the time-sensitive nature of this real estate transfer and pending liquidated damages for delays in closing, it was necessary to secure all necessary permits and approvals, mobilize its equipment and personnel, thermally treat approximately 10,000 tons of contaminated soils on-site and demobilize in one month. In addition, it was required to coordinate and perform its operations around other on-site building contractors. The project was completed on time, thereby saving the client from paying damages for a delayed closing.
