Demolition and Remediation at Crowley Marine - Coos Bay, OR
Located on Coos Bay, this site was a former fuel storage facility owned and operated by Crowley Marine Services. Crowley operated the facility as a fuel transfer, storage, and distribution facility until 1984. The contract was to demolish all above-ground structures, excavate and thermally treat contaminated soils, and restore the site.
The specific scope of work included the following: asbestos and lead based paint surveys and abatement; sampling, identifying, packaging, and disposal of various hazardous liquids found throughout the site; disconnecting and capping all site utilities; clearing and grubbing; demolition of four multi-story wood frame buildings and one steel building; disposal of miscellaneous debris; demolition of a large concrete retaining wall and building foundations; excavation and stockpiling contaminated soils; on-site thermal desorption of approximately 9,000 cubic yards of contaminated soils; extensive dewatering and backfilling of excavations; site restoration; and pen-nitting and regulatory reporting for all demolition and remediation activities.
