Habitat Restoration at Commencement Bay - Commencement Bay, WA
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration provided this contract to perform stream habitat rehabilitation at two separate locations within Commencement Bay. The purpose of this project was to reestablish a habitat that allowed for the reintroduction of aquatic wildlife. Specific features of work included: excavation and disposal of contaminated soils; construction of earthen berms and backwater pools; erosion control; site restoration, and development.
The site is directly adjacent to Hybelos creek, a salmon bearing stream. Consequently, appropriate construction methods were used, including de-watering to keep suitable working conditions for deeper excavation, and erosion control measures to prevent discharge of sediment into the creek.
