Remote Site Soil Remediation at Naval Base - Adak, AK
This remote site soil remediation project involved barging a thermal desorption plant, associated equipment, and personnel to a remote soil remediation site on an island naval base on the Aleutian Chain. Over 13,000 tons of heavily contaminated soil with moisture contents greater than 30% were successfully treated. The ability to effectively manage time and resources in efficient ways was a key element to overcoming the challenges involved with this project. The extremely limited availability of supply and support flights to the site, the exclusive use of diesel fuel as the primary burner fuel, as well as the high winds, snow, and extreme winter cold in Alaska were critical challenges faced during this project.
